Chat colours are cosmetics: they change how your messages and your name look and give no other advantage. Some come with your rank, four can be bought, and all others are crate vouchers.
How it works
Open /island cosmetics and pick the Chat colours category. Click a colour you own and choose where it shows: chat message (your messages in global and island chat), name in chat, or tab list. Use everywhere sets all three at once, and Back to automatic removes your choice everywhere while your colours stay unlocked. Colour codes you type yourself still win over the chat message colour.Chat text without a colour of its own is grey, in global chat and in island chat.
Rank colours
Every rank from Acolyte to Mythic has its own chat colour. You can use the colour of your rank and of every rank below it. If you lose a rank, its colour stops working until you hold that rank again. The ranks themselves are on Cosmetic ranks.
Colours to buy
Four colours are sold in the Chat colours menu as a one-time purchase. A bought colour works on every profile, and a failed purchase pays the price back.

Colours from crates
All other colours come as vouchers from crates. A voucher shows a preview of its colour; right-click it to unlock the colour for good. If you already own the colour, the voucher stays in your inventory. The chance is per prize roll, and the Season Crate draws three prizes per open.

Tips
Can I use a different colour for my name and my messages?
Yes. In the Chat colours menu you pick a colour for the chat message, the name in chat and the tab list separately.
Why does my chat colour not show when I type colour codes?
Colour codes you type yourself win over your chat message colour. Leave them out and the chosen colour shows.
What happens to a voucher for a colour I already own?
It is not used up. The voucher stays in your inventory.
